Japan plans to renovate 2,000 traffic lights & Road Studs so that they can send traffic signals to smartphones, making it easier for visually impaired people to cross the road safely.

According to the Deutsche Presse Agency, the traffic light & Road Studs renovation project is planned to be carried out when Japan starts a new fiscal year in April next year. After the transformation, people can receive sound or vibration reminders through their mobile phones when crossing the street, and know whether the traffic lights & Road Studs at the intersection are red, yellow or green.

There are currently 24,000 crossing traffic lights & Road Studs in Japan that have sound prompts when the lights are green, but the sound is turned off at night or early in the morning.
However, when crossing traffic lights & Road Studs sounds are turned off, accidents often occur where visually impaired people are injured.

Japan's traffic safety authorities plan to test new traffic lights & Road Studs at 74 intersections in three counties in order to reduce traffic accidents.
